the Right Angler
Two murders. Two different responses by the Obama Administration. One conclusion.
The first was the murder of Dr. George Tiller from Wichita, Kansas. Dr. Tiller was murdered at his church, the Reformation Lutheran Church, where he was serving as an usher and handing out church bulletins. A gunman approached Dr. Tiller, shot him point blank in the head and then escaped. 3 hours later, Scott Roeder was arrested in Kansas City and charged with first-degree murder.
All murder is tragic and wrong. Scott Roeder will most certainly deserve whatever punishment awaits him.
I’m sure at this point your curious as to the motive behind the attack. Well, Dr. Tiller was not just an ordinary doctor. He was an abortionist, and he wasn’t just an ordinary abortionist, either. He specialized in late-term abortions. In fact, his abortion clinic is one of only 3 clinics in the country that advertises late-term abortion services.
Dr. Tiller was under constant investigation by the Kansas Board of Healing Arts because he was willing to conduct abortions for babies in their 7th, 8th, and 9th months. Aborting viable fetuses is illegal under Kansas law unless two doctors can confirm that continuing the pregnancy would cause the mother “substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.” Dr. Tiller had been accused 19 times of improperly obtaining the confirmation of the second doctor. He was found not guilty 19 times.
If you try to go to his website now, you'll see that it has been taken down, but there are other sites that have chronicled his deeds over the years. On one of these sites, Dr. Tiller is referred to as “Tiller the Baby Killer”. There is audio of Tiller admitting to performing 10,800 late term abortions over a 5 year period.
The following brochure was posted on Dr. Tiller's website before it was taken down: “Many patients request a remembrance of their baby to take home with them. The following lists items and services that some of our patients have found helpful in their emotional recovery: holding your baby after delivery, viewing your baby after delivery, photographs of your baby, Baptism of your baby, footprints and handprints of your baby, certificate of premature miscarriage, cremation, an urn for ashes...” Please keep in mind that the babies he's referring to have been aborted and are dead at the time these services take place. Now go back and read that list again. If you want, you can see an actual picture from Dr. Tiller's website of a would be mother holding her aborted child and smiling. It is one of the most gruesome images you will ever see.
Finally, Dr. Tiller was quoted in the book Fetus Fanatics saying: “Abortion is about the rest of your life, it's about making your dreams come true.”
On the very same day that Dr. Tiller was murdered, President Barack Obama issued this strong statement: “I am shocked and outraged by the murder of Dr. George Tiller as he attended church services this morning. However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence.”
Then, Attorney General Eric Holder directed federal marshals to: “offer protection to other appropriate people and facilities across the nation.” Presumably, he meant abortion clinics and abortion providers.
Many pro-life groups condemned the killing as well. The National Right to Life Committee issued this statement: “The pro-life movement works to protect the right to life and increase respect for human life. The unlawful use of violence is directly contrary to that goal.” I couldn't agree more.
Now onto the second murder. On June 1st, Private William Long was standing outside an army recruitment center in Arkansas when a black SUV driven by Adbulhakim Mujahid Muhammad pulled into the parking lot. Muhammad leaned out of the window and opened fire. He shot and killed Private William Long who had recently completed basic training and was visiting the recruitment center to talk to others about his positive experience. Muhammad had recently completed his training too, in Yemen.
The police arrested Muhammad shortly after the shooting. He did not know Private Long. He targeted him for “ideological reasons”. He told police that he was specifically targeting soldiers for what they had done to Muslims and admitted that he would have killed more soldiers had they been in the parking lot as he was committed to “killing as many people in the army as he could.”
Even though police are treating this as a law enforcement matter, it is clear that this is connected to the War on Terror and that radical Islam has claimed another U.S. Soldier's life. Only time will tell whether is this is an isolated incident or part of a larger strategy.
President Barack Obama did not issue a statement on the same day of the murder, nor the day after. On the third day, after sustained pressure to break his silence, he issued this statement: “I am deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence against two brave young soldiers who were doing their part to strengthen our armed forces and keep our country safe.” No shock, no outrage, just sad. True to form, Attorney General Eric Holder did not order increased protection for military recruitment centers or their personnel. He did on June 4th, issue, however, a directive outlining increased protection for American Muslims. Coincidentally, there haven't been any statements from any American Muslim organization denouncing the attack either.
What conclusion can be drawn from this tale of two murders? There is only one.
